The Question I Asked Myself Every Morning (And How I Finally Stopped)

Breathwork & Guitar for Men | Anxiety Relief

By Jake Paul | Tune Into Wellness

Every morning for a long time, I woke up and asked myself the same question:

"Is this just who I am now?"

Tight jaw. Running on fumes. Looking like I had it together from the outside — job, family, responsibilities — but inside? Drowning.

Anxiety was constant. Alcohol was my escape. Not because I wanted to drink, but because I needed relief from the crushing feeling that I wasn't in control of my own life. Every drink came with guilt.

Every morning came with that same question.

I didn't want my kids growing up with the same dad I had — checked out, reactive, unreachable.

Something had to change.

This daily guitar and breathwork practice is my natural cure for anxiety.

Everything I Tried That Didn't Work

I tried willpower. I told myself I'd just stop — just decide to be different. That lasted about three days.

I tried "just relaxing." Whatever that means. Nobody tells you how to relax when your nervous system has been on high alert so long it doesn't know how to come down.

I read all the books. I knew the theory cold. I could tell you exactly why chronic stress elevates cortisol, why that disrupts sleep, why poor sleep makes anxiety worse. I understood the cycle perfectly.

And I was still stuck in it.

Nothing stuck — not because I wasn't trying hard enough, but because everything I tried was asking my mind to fix a problem that lived in my body.

What Finally Changed Everything

What finally changed everything was simple — and I almost missed it because it seemed too small to matter.

I sat still long enough to pick up a guitar.

Not to become a musician. Not to perform for anyone. Not to learn songs. Just to give my nervous system somewhere to land at the end of a hard day.

There's something that happens when your hands are busy with something physical and intentional — something that isn't a screen, isn't work, isn't a problem to solve. Your brain gets a focus point. The noise quiets. Not because you forced it to. Because you gave it something else to do.

I paired it with specific breathwork — box breathing at first, then rhythm breathing timed to the strumming. And then I started studying NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and realized exactly why it was all working.

The guitar wasn't just a hobby. It was a pattern interrupt. A neurological anchor. A way to physically move my nervous system out of fight-or-flight and into something calmer — on purpose, in minutes, without willpower.

Where I Am Today

Today I'm anxiety-free. Alcohol-free. I sleep through the night.

I'm the dad I always wanted to be.

My wife still drinks. My dad still drinks. Both sides of my family — sometimes heavily. They say they're supportive, and maybe they are in their own way. But I'm surrounded every day by the very thing I walked away from.

And I'm solid. Grounded. Calm in my decision. At peace.

Not because my circumstances are perfect. Not because everyone around me changed. But because my practice is strong enough that I can stand in it, no matter what's happening around me.

That's what I want for you.

The 7-Day Calm Reset

That 5-minute daily practice — guitar, breathwork, and NLP — is what I built the 7-Day Calm Reset around.

It's for men who are carrying too much and have forgotten what it feels like to actually exhale.

Men who look like they have it together from the outside but know the truth. Men who've tried meditation apps and felt stupid. Men who've told themselves they'll "start something" when things slow down — and things never slow down.

No guitar experience needed. No music background. Just a willingness to show up for 5 minutes a day.

Here's what's inside:

  • 7 guided daily practices (5 minutes each)

  • Guitar + breathwork sessions you follow along with

  • NLP techniques wired into every single day — Future Pacing, Pattern Interrupt, Anchoring, Parts Integration

  • The NLP-infused workbook with daily reflection prompts

  • 7-day habit tracker

  • Heart rate tracking so you can measure where you started vs. where you landed

  • Lifetime access

  • Certificate of completion

  • PLUS: 30-minute 1:1 coaching call with me (limited spots per round)

And here's what happens each day:

Day 1 — What Would Calm Even Feel Like? NLP: Future Pacing. You picture your calmer self so clearly your nervous system starts building the road there.

Day 2 — The Anxiety Loop Stops Here NLP: Pattern Interrupt. Break the anxiety spiral before it finishes loading, using a physical shift your nervous system can't ignore.

Day 3 — You Don't Need Talent. You Need 5 Minutes. NLP: Reframing. Dismantle the story that calm is for other people — or that you don't have time, or that you've tried things before and they don't stick.

Day 4 — Build Your Own Reset Button NLP: Anchoring. Train your brain to tag your D chord as a shortcut to calm. By Day 4, the chord becomes the reset. No willpower required.

Day 5 — The Words You're Telling Yourself NLP: Meta Model & Embedded Commands. The voice in your head isn't neutral. Today you start editing the script.

Day 6 — The Provider and the Man NLP: Parts Integration. The part of you that carries everything and the part that aches for peace finally stop fighting.

Day 7 — You Are a Calm Man. Prove It to Yourself. NLP: Future Pacing + Identity Shift. You don't try calm. You become it. Then you plan how to keep it.

What Men Are Saying

"I've been using the course and so far I do see a difference. I really like being able to focus on breathwork — apparently I really need that!"Devin, US Marine

"I'm really grateful I found you and this. I was looking for guitar and I found something better — wellness."Colby, age 22

"The reflection questions on Day 3 wrecked me in the best way. I hadn't asked myself those things before. That alone was worth it."Anonymous Student, age 50

"Having the guitar at the same time is almost like a little brain teaser at first, but it helps to focus my mind right."Current Student, age 39

This Is for You If...

  • You work hard and carry a lot — but feel disconnected from yourself at the end of the day

  • You've tried meditation or breathing apps — and they felt too soft, too slow, or you just forgot to open them

  • You're not in crisis — but you're not okay either. You're somewhere in the gray

  • You want something real — not a 30-day program that requires an hour a day

  • You're skeptical — and that's exactly why this will work for you

I spots open up every 7–10 days, and I only work with a limited number of men at a time — because I want to actually support you, not just sell you something and disappear.

Ready to Start?

"I am a calm man. My guitar is my sanctuary."

That's the Day 7 identity statement. It's yours to own.

See you on Day 1.
